Treating PMS (premenstrual syndrome) holistically with acupuncture in Stuttgart
Individual TCM therapy for premenstrual complaints
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) can manifest itself through a variety of physical and emotional symptoms in the second half of the menstrual cycle and can have a significant impact on everyday life.
The symptoms associated with PMS subside with the onset of menstruation.
In my practice for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) in Stuttgart, I offer individual treatments aimed at alleviating symptoms and promoting inner balance.
TCM understands PMS as an expression of an energetic imbalance
In Chinese medicine, premenstrual complaints are usually based on a shao-yang pattern. The patterns were described in the six-layer model by the Chinese doctor Zhang Zhongjing in his clinical book Shang Han Lun almost 2000 years ago. Each pattern of the six layers includes a variety of symptoms. In the case of Shao Yang, the following symptoms may appear: Nausea, half-sided headaches, back pain, depressed mood or irritability, back pain, dizziness, diarrhea or constipation, and insomnia. In order to treat complaints successfully, it is essential to identify the correct pattern, as the same symptoms can occur in different patterns. Pulse diagnosis is needed to determine the pattern. As the body changes throughout the menstrual cycle, different patterns can occur over the course of a cycle.
Typical symptoms of PMS can be
- Irritability, mood swings, nervousness

- Headaches or migraines
