Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

  • What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a central pillar of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), in which fine needles are inserted into specific acupuncture points to stimulate the nervous system, stimulate the body’s own functions and relieve pain. The patient feels a slight stimulus, which is called Deqi in Chinese medicine.

  • What are the benefits of acupuncture?
Acupuncture works via the nervous system and stimulates the body’s own functions without the need for foreign substances. It can help with a variety of conditions, including pain, gastroenterological and endocrine disorders, gynecological complaints, allergies, asthma, neurological and psychosomatic complaints as well as depression, anxiety, stress and sleep disorders.

  • What is moxibustion?
Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese heat treatment in which dried mugwort is used to heat acupuncture points and areas of the body. The heat penetrates deep into the tissue, promotes blood circulation, relaxes the muscles, harmonizes the flow of energy (Qi) and strengthens the immune system. At Acupuncture Gebert, moxibustion is always used in combination with other TCM methods.

  • What is cupping therapy?
Cupping therapy is a method in which cupping glasses are placed on the skin to create a negative pressure that improves blood flow to muscles and tissue. It is used at Acupuncture Gebert in combination with acupuncture and moxibustion to relieve tension, alleviate pain and improve the flow of energy.

  • What does Chinese herbal therapy involve?
Chinese herbal therapy uses medicinal herbs that are individually tailored to the patient’s needs. It is used in combination with other TCM methods to harmonize the energy flow, correct deficiencies, strengthen organ functions and activate the body’s self-healing powers.
